Clearwater Beach Trip - The Full Story

Origin

Welcome to the Clearwater Beach Volleyball trip! This annual tradition began in 2002 when Jason Scott and Taye Im traveled from Chicago to participate in a men's doubles tournament. Their desire for camaraderie led them to invite Mark Westlund, whose family friend owned a penthouse condo along the beach, perfect for their group, so he invited a few friends to join him, and so it began. What started as a simple trip has since evolved into an exciting annual event that over a hundred players have participated in, filled with volleyball, friendship, and unforgettable memories. Unlike the Master's, you don't have to be 35 to participate, the only policy is "no "assholes allowed"!

Then

The aforementioned condo served as a hub for our adventure, often accommodating 10-12 guys on trips, some crashing on concrete floors and inflatable mattresses. Sleep was scarce, but it was this unique experience that ignited the spirit of the trip. Each year, our shared love for volleyball brought us together, but it was the camaraderie and the memories we created, surrounded by friends who shared our passion, became the highlight of every trip.

Now

Clearwater Beach has undergone a remarkable transformation throughout the years. Once filled with low-rise hotels and motels, it now boasts impressive resorts that redefine the landscape. Although we’ve traded in our stay at the old "Frat House," the sand remains the same like pristine white sugar. The essence of our trips continues to thrive and we hope that spirit endures for generations to come, as the second generation is now attending regularly.
